Live and Let live, Be the Change You Want To See, Finish What You Start
aboutME
Hello and thank you for visiting my site. My full name is Warren Joseph Bugeja but my friends call me warrybee. I am a free-lance heritage professional, and content writer. Until recently I worked as a Senior Communications Executive for Heritage Malta and graduated last year from the University of Birmingham with a Master of Arts in International Heritage Management (Distinction). Read my thesis on the Interpretation of Food in Maltese Museums here. In the past I have also been a videographer, a volunteer, a public relations officer, a guesthouse manager, a complementary health therapist, a tutor for children with learning disabilities, a journalist, an English language teacher and an organiser of boutique cultural events.
Bottom line: I'm an adaptor; a life long learner; a communicator and more importantly a good listener; I am curious about what makes people tick; I love the feeling of salt on my skin; I'm passionate about travel, trekking in nature, art-house cine, good conversation, nutrition and especially the history of food. If I have time for a siesta lulled by a gentle breeze with a furry companion nestled in the crook of my arm, then my life is complete.
Currently I'm based on Gozo, the belly button of the Med, a tiny island steeped in history and myth, strategically located on the crossroads between
East and West, Africa and Europe.
I am half English and half Maltese by birth and a global citizen by choice.
My background has always been in Communications and I have a degree in the subject with subs in History of Mediterranean Civilisation and Psychology.
I speak four languages and besides writing, I am a good organiser, improviser, qualitative researcher and facilitator. I love to laugh and as my Grandfather taught me, a smile costs nothing. Somehow people feel that they can open open up to me and I'm oft a repository of the unsaid. As is the case with many people, I am most alive when being creative and feeling connected to life and my surroundings. I consider that I have a keen aethetic eye when it comes to design, the use of colour and photography. In cooking, I cannot leave a recipe alone and am always inspired to experiment with contrasting and complementing herbs and spices to come up with a new gesthalt. The same can be said of my attitude to life.

Writing Experience
I’ve been writing feature articles on a free-lance basis since 1997, predominantly for several Maltese newspapers, Sunday magazines, specialist publications and websites. Analytical and meticulous in my research, I honed my writing skills as part of my PR brief, working as Communications Officer for both Environmental and Social Welfare NGOs and also within the Civil Service. My day to day duties included: issuing press releases and handouts, press articles, compiling end of year reports, copy writing, script writing, editing, creating and gathering information and content for websites and authoring the publicity to promote the many events that I have organised.

I can write just about anything, editing and adapting my writing style to fit the corporate image of the publication I’m writing for. My beat has included mainly human interest stories, history, art and culture, local and quirky personalities, travel, health, fitness, social issues, cooking, entertainment and leisure, and spirituality amongst other subjects.

Personal Projects:
-
I'm currently two thirds of the way through writing and researching my first historical foodie novel: a 6 year labour of love set in Roman Melita and Gaulos.
-
I have also begun work on my second novel: a cross generational family saga largely taking place during The Second World War.
-
In the meantime I'm in the process of editing a book of funny true-life personal anecdotes and character sketches.
